THE GIFT OF SENSITIVITY

**FINALIST: Women’s Literature (Non-Fiction) Book 2025: Next-Generation Indie Book Awards**

“Once seen as a detriment, emotions are now emerging as a powerful attribute. People who have had to learn to toughen up to get ahead are now leaning toward the gifts of highly sensitive people. Elena Amber takes us through hidden gifts of sensitivity and shows practical ways to channel these to their highest levels. The Gift of Sensitivity is a guidebook for the evolving new humanity. “ – Steve Rother, Founder, speaker, 8X author and 5X presenter at the United Nations, including the Class on Channeling

“When groups congregate, having even one highly sensitive person increases the group’s effectiveness. Humans thrive on collective action, and sensitive people like being part of a group and will work to make the group successful. The empath’s social nature guides others in improving health and happiness. For those of us who are less sensitive, there are lessons to be learned from the highly sensitive.” – Dr. Paul J. Zak, Professor, speaker, neuroeconomist, and author of Immersion: The Science of the Extraordinary and the Source of Happiness

“Sensitivity and empathy are core skills for Experience designers. In this highly personal work, Elena Amber shares the tale of how she became more sensitive, and the benefits of sensitivity.” – James Wallman, Futurist, 2x TEDx, 2x bestselling books, CEO World Experience Organization

This is the era of emotion: EQ training for employees, empathy in leadership, the Experience Economy of consumers. But how do we access the full potential of creativity, originality, innovation, intuition, flexibility, and inclusiveness that emotions can unlock? Through sensitivity.

Sensitivity is the degree to which we sense and perceive the world. For too long we have seen it as a weakness, especially in business: Elena Amber demonstrates that it is the source of our most authentic strength, and our superpower for the future.

Let Me Invite You to the World of Senses

Emotions bring color to our lives. They keep us connected to the very essence of being alive.

Yet, they can also cause tremendous pain. Under their heavy influence, we might take actions we regret forever. Emotions hold a profound power—one that both fascinates and terrifies us.

This is why we often suppress our natural states instead of giving them a clear pathway. Too often, fear of feeling deeply keeps us locked in patterns of control, when in fact, it is conscious engagement—not suppression—that invites us into the renewing waters of emotional health. Processing the tidal waves of our past is not a weakness but an act of courage and the true gateway to renewal. Our emotions are a treasure, and being sensitive is an innate gift. It helps you connect with others, nature, and yourself with stunning clarity.

I vividly remember “A Beautiful Mind,” a film that left a lasting impression. It holds a great deal of personal significance for me, and I revisit it frequently. The story, based on Akiva Goldsman’s script, portrays the extraordinary life of Professor Nash, brilliantly acted by Russell Crowe. John Forbes Nash Jr. was a renowned American mathematician who made significant contributions to game theory. In 1994, Nash, along with fellow game theorists, received the Nobel Prize in Economics. With sheer determination, Nash navigated two worlds—one dark and intense, shaped by savior-like inner games, and the other grounded in work, family, and social reality. His high sensitivity revealed hidden truths, yet bridging those two realms was an immense challenge. For minds marked by emotional volatility, the challenge can feel insurmountable.

Watching his journey, I observed a restless intellect forced to suppress emotions just to find equilibrium. But within that sensitivity lies extraordinary potential. When embraced, that very force can transform struggle into insight, and insight into true mastery. This realization sparked my deep exploration of human potential beyond imagination. Imagine what could be unlocked should Nash transcend his trauma and cultivate emotional resilience, instead of merely managing it. What dormant potential might he finally unlock? What is possible for us?

Motivated by this idea, I embarked on an eight-year transformative journey that involved social isolation, intense meditation (2-6 hours daily), celibacy, and deep emotional work, with particular intensity after 2019. Through exploration and self-discovery, I sought to uncover how we can naturally and happily tap into our extraordinary abilities.

This journey culminated in my 2023 debut book, “The Gift of Sensitivity,” praised by Kirkus Reviews as a unique self-help book that focuses on the benefits of sensitivity and was recognized as a finalist in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards 2025. I’ve realized that to access our inner faculties, we must achieve a specific state, challenging the notion that life is solely about accumulating experiences. The idea of accumulation, whatever it could be, does not align with life itself. This journey taught me that true strength lies in our ability not to accumulate experiences but to release them—especially the emotional charge they carry—rather than letting them build up inside us. It is sensitivity, not suppression, that enables this process. When we engage deeply with our emotions and allow ourselves to transcend them, we awaken a dormant capacity within.

Feeling deeply is not a weakness—it is a gateway. Emotions act as invisible strings, showing us the exact blocks available for inner work at any given moment. This capacity to deal with experiences is what makes us strong. The emotional capacity we hold for ourselves and others becomes our emotional capital.

What do we do, proudly accumulating experiences instead? We are depleting our mental, physical, and psychological health until the day we can’t hold our past experiences any longer.

Think like an entrepreneur. Would you take on capital you do not know how to use? Money without a plan does not create freedom—it becomes a liability. Similarly, the emotional charge we cannot direct, move, or transform becomes a prison. It weighs on us. It clogs our system and starts to own us rather than serve us.

Capital must flow. It must be invested and transformed into something valuable. Emotional capacity is exactly the same. When we know how to process our emotions, circulate them, and connect them to our actions, they become a source of creativity and strength. When we do not, they create stagnation and overwhelm.

The question is not how much knowledge or experience you have. The question is whether you know how to create emotional capital from it to make a move.

Think about your own emotional capital. Reflect on how anger can convert into fuel for personal growth. Pain can become your greatest power. Vulnerability can transform into sharp intuition. By first embracing our emotions, turning them into insight, and then taking action, we unlock limitless potential.

When we honor and nurture this innate gift, we tap into a wellspring of understanding that extends beyond ourselves, fueling authentic bonds and inspiring meaningful change all around us. At its highest form, global emotional health—rooted in sensitivity—becomes the cornerstone of a regenerative economy: one that uplifts people, restores the planet, and opens the door to shared prosperity. To move forward, we must set aside the old ways of emotional suppression and embrace the full spectrum of our feelings. In order to heal, we need to feel first.

Choosing to feel deeply—and empowering others to do the same—creates fertile ground for healing, sustainable growth, and collective advancement. By recognizing and cultivating sensitivity, we turn adversity into purpose and unleash the collective brilliance needed to build a flourishing, resilient future for all.

Sensitivity is far more than a personality trait—it is a true superpower that unlocks our deepest empathy, our ability to form meaningful connections, to think by prioritizing the highest human values over mere logic, and to be creative.
